Family Practice Dentists and Hygienists
Continuing Dental Education (CDE) program
: Family practitioners are generally unprepared to provide evidenced
based pediatric oral health care and caregiver counseling.
Pediatric care can be a practice builder for the family
practitioner. This course will enable family practitioners to
provide "Early Childhood Dental Visits".
Pediatricians, Family Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners and Office Staff
In May 2003 the Centers of Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics issued a policy statement that “qualified pediatric health professionals” should provide risk assessment for children at 6 months of age. Physicians and nurse practitioners are essential to oral health because of their unique opportunities to provide simple and effective counseling to caregivers and in recommending that caregivers provide early dental visits for children.
Some children under medical supervision are often at increased the risk
for poor oral health.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) program in pediatric oral health
with emphasis on prevention for children at risk for Early Childhood
Tooth Decay.
Obstetricians
CME program for women’s oral health with emphasis on prenatal
oral health. As poor oral health is being linked to
pregnancy health and outcomes, prenatal visits provide timely
opportunities for oral health behavioral counseling. About
Smiles also provides educational brochures for obstetricians and
their patients that promote the doctor's practice, oral health and
timely dental visits.
Oral Health Education “Train the Trainers” Program
As oral health literacy is essential for community health, “train the trainer” programs enables
non-health professionals and community members to provide risk
assessment and oral health counseling for their community members.
